Q. How do I know if Oakstone Academy will be right for my child?

A. Choosing a school for your child can be challenging, especially when there are many choices. Just as children and their needs are different so are schools in their ability to meet those needs. Oakstone Academy offers a challenging curriculum in an atmosphere that is more personal than you would find at a public school. Small class sizes allow students to set their own learning pace. Highly qualified teachers help each child reach their full educational potential. We provide supports so children with anxiety, sensory needs, or behavioral needs are guided through their day. We make sure children do not miss out on typical experiences as a result of any challenge. Many parents of typical peers report that their children thrived in our program. The best way to make this important decision is to call us. Please leave a message if we are all with students at that time.

Q. What are regular school hours?

A.

Mondays–Thursdays: 8:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Fridays: 8:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.

Drop-off begins at 8:15

Morning care begins after 7:30 ($60 a week)

Aftercare ends at exactly 5:30 ($80 a week)

Q. I understand that some of the students at Oakstone Academy have autism spectrum issues. Why would I want my child to attend?

A. Aside from small class sizes and low student-teacher ratios, Oakstone Academy offers a great education. Our curricula is designed to facilitate learning for a wide range of learning styles and learners. Our curricula ranges from gifted, to language learner, to advanced, to below grade level, special needs, and entirely typical. In addition, gifted students are able to work at an accelerated pace, without taking him or her away from their appropriate-aged peer group. Research has indicated that children without disabilities can gain positive attitudes as well as psychological and academic benefits from their exposure to children with disabilities in inclusive schools (Maras & Brown, 2000; Nowicki, 2006; Macks & Revee, 2007*). Furthermore, results from a study conducted at Oakstone Academy in 2008 showed that students without disabilities who attended were more likely to help others, volunteer, cooperate and exhibit problem solving skills than their counterparts attending traditional (non-inclusive) classrooms. Our school culture significantly reduces safety and well-being risks that are commonplace in larger traditional schools. Character Education and school culture make our school a pleasant place to be without fear of bullying. Because of the nature of our program any social concerns of that type are addressed immediately, before a problem can develop.

Q. How can I get involved as a parent?

A. There are many ways to get involved. Our school has a community that helps support various events and fundraising efforts. To find out more, please inquire at the Administrative Office of the school or contact us at: 561-585-7800*

You may also contact your child’s teacher to find out more by writing a note in the daily communication folder.

*I recommend creating an online form where they input their contact information and have some preselected ways to get involved and an open ended text box as well.

Q. Is there a Summer Program at Oakstone Academy?

A. Oakstone Academy conducts a Summer Program for children based on demand. Children can participate in a variety of fun indoor and outdoor activities, all directed by qualified Oakstone Academy Palm Beach staff. See our website link, Programs for more.

Q. What is the student/teacher ratio?

A. Our average student-teacher ratio is 6:1. While the ratio fluctuates based on need, it is one of the lowest ratios currently available in the community. We take individual attention very seriously in our program.

Q. Why is giving to Oakstone Academy important?

A. Oakstone Academy strives to provide our students with the very best in curricula, facilities and teaching staff. Things like classroom materials, equipment, building improvements, insurance, benefits, and teacher salaries require support from our families so that we can continue to serve our students and sustain excellent standards. Without support, our students would be able to find a rigorous classroom with a low ratio. Many of our students would have been barred from learning alongside their peers in every other program in the area. When you give to Oakstone, you help serve a population in dire need.
