History

In August of 2011, a small group of dedicated parents in Palm Beach County contacted Dr. Rebecca Morrison regarding bringing her Social Immersion program to South Florida. Together they opened our nonprofit school in order to provide research-based programming that is fully inclusive to all children, including those with ASD. Our first peer models were predominantly of low-income homes. Today, over half of our student body come from low-income households. We serve ELL/ESOL students, gifted students, children with ADHD, and typical learners with passion and empirically-based practices. Oakstone Academy Palm Beach proudly supports academic and social gains that help all children reach their full potential.

In order to accomplish our mission, Oakstone Academy Palm Beach partnered with the Children’s Center for Developmental Enrichment (CCDE) and its founder Rebecca Morrison, PhD. We work together to replicate their nationally recognized model for Social Immersion©. CCDE and their school Oakstone Academy in Westerville, Ohio has been in operation since 1999. CCDE’s mission was to develop an empirically-based education model for the inclusion of children with ASD (U.S. Department of Education Grant # H324M030199) and their typically developing peers, support families as they navigated education and treatment pathways, and increase community awareness and acceptance of individuals with ASD. Oakstone Ohio currently serves all ages from infancy to postsecondary education. It is our hope that we can continue to grow our program so families in Florida can benefit from such comprehensive programming.

Initially a PK-3rd school, Oakstone Academy Palm Beach gradually expanded services. Beginning in the fall of 2013, Oakstone began serving grades Kindergarten-8th. By fall of 2018, we proudly launched our high school program. With the help of generous community members, we hope to continue to expand our programming so we may offer our students the best possible private school education, and provide an opportunity for children with ASD to be full members of the community.
